Meet The Doctors
Dr. Reed was born on a family dairy farm in Ithaca, New York. As a young farm boy, he developed a passion for the husbandry and health of animals, whether they were dairy cows, farm dogs and cats or even wild, undomesticated animals. Whenever veterinarians from Cornell University came to the family farm to treat cows or calves, young Dr. Reed was by their sides, asking a million questions. He knew that he would someday join their ranks.
Dr. Reed graduated from North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. Following graduation, he worked at a practice that treated both large and small animals. He then operated his own large animal practice where he treated dairy cattle, horses, llama, pigs and goats. As the number of family farms started to dwindle, he made a career switch to companion animals. In 1991, he opened Pointe South Animal Hospital in Randleman, NC. In 2000, he opened Blue Flint Animal Hospital in neighboring Asheboro. In 2007, he and his family relocated to Denver where he opened West Shore Animal Hospital in 2008.
Dr. Reed currently resides in Denver with his wife, Peggy, and their daughter, Anna. The Reeds also have four grown children. Their house is home to two cats, Homer and Gidget and three dogs, a Border Collie mix named P.D. a Bull Terrier puppy named Lucy Lilly Belle and a Chihuahua named Skippyjon Jones.
When not practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Reed enjoys riding bicycles, woodworking and keeping bees.
Dr. John McLean was born and raised in Lincolnton, North Carolina. As an only child, he always had cats and dogs growing up as companions, sort of like surrogates for siblings. While working on his Eagle Scout merit badge prerequisite, he mentored at a local animal hospital. With that experience, combined with his love for animals, he realized veterinary medicine would be an ideal career choice.
He attended Lincolnton High School and UNC Chapel Hill, where he earned a B.A. in Chemistry. He then attended NC State and earned a B.S. in Zoology. Subsequently, he attended NC State College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1988.
Dr. McLean has been practicing companion animal medicine and surgery exclusively for over 25 years.
He recently returned home from practicing in Henderson, North Carolina to attend to his elderly parents. He currently resides in Lowesville.
He is the proud father to three children: a daughter, Cameron; and two sons, Cody, and Julian. He is also a proud grandpa to his grandson, Trenton. He is also the father to several furry critters: Willie, a Chihuahua; and two cats, Stewy and Clarise.
His hobbies include: Panthers football, Carolina basketball, riding his motorcycle and spending time with his children.

Janice joined our West Shore team in October of 2015. She has a degree in Business Communications and after working in customer service for over 20 years, she decided to she wanted to do what she loved best, working with animals. Animals have always been her first love, since the day her Dad brought home her first bottle fed puppy that was abandoned when its mother had been hit by a car. She loves nurturing animals. In Janice’s time off, you can find her training with her German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois. She has two German Shepherds in her home, Leyland and Mylon, and two Belgian Malinois, Dutch and Danica. These four do have to compete in her home with her three smaller dogs, Jia, Sid and Rosie. They are a lot of work, but completely worth it. Mylon is the special one of the household; she was diagnosed with cancer three years ago and is still going strong.
